Andrew Catalon, a play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports and former television sports reporter and anchor, has been named the ECAC-SIDA's Monahan & Wallace Media Award winner for 2014. The award is presented annually by the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Association to an individual in either print or electronic media "for outstanding coverage of eastern intercollegiate athletics."
"I am so honored to receive this award," Catalon said while in the midst of preparing for his play-by-play responsibilities for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. He has been assigned to cover second and third round games, along with Mike Gminski and Otis Livingston, in San Diego on Friday and Sunday.
A native of Short Hills, New Jersey, he is in his fifth year working for CBS Sports. During his time at CBS and CBS Sports Network, he has also done play-by-play for the NFL, college football and basketball, The Masters, PGA Championship, Arena Bowl and US Open Tennis.
In addition to his time at CBS, Catalon (

He has freelanced with the Tennis Channel, SNY as the UCONN women's basketball play-by-play announcer, WFAN, and he worked in local television for over a decade in both Burlington, Vermont and Albany, New York.
Catalon is a graduate of the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. Upon earning his degree he worked at WVNY-TV as a sports reporter and anchor for a year before moving to a similar position at WNYT NewsChannel 13 in Albany. The Capital District consists of three professional sports franchises and several colleges that compete at every NCAA level. There is also a vibrant and dense high school sports presence as well as the famed Saratoga Race Course.
While in local television, he excelled at uncovering and presenting feature stories in a variety of sports at many different levels of college athletics, as well as reporting on events as they happened.
"Andrew set himself apart by willingly doing the legwork to cover all aspects of the Capital Region sports scene," said David Alexander, the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at The College of Saint Rose and a Past President of ECAC-SIDA. "His dedication to the area's entire sports scene allowed him to leave a unique impression on college athletics within the area. He is the rare individual whose work ethic and passion rise to the level of his exceptional talent."
Catalon, who will presented his award at the ECAC-SIDA Awards Dinner on June 26 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, New York, spent nearly 10 years at WNYT before accepting a position to do play-by-play with CBS Sports Network in July 2013.
He lives in Albany with his wife, Jessica.
